Training the experts at Nehru Institute of Mountaineering
Nestled in a premier location in the Himalayas in 1967 NIM is considered amongst the best mountaineering institute in the world. In addition to basic and advanced mountaineering training courses for defence personnel and civilians. NIM also offers training programs for skiing, mountain adventure, sports climbing and mountain terrain biking.
The terrain and the nature of the activities exposes staff and students of NIM to certain risks and incidents. To prevent, mitigate and respond quickly and effectively, knowledge and skill with the right attitude is essential.
IRA considered as the leading rescue training organisation in India and probably Asia was requested to conduct a training program on 11th and 12th of September 2023.
The government of India has requested NIM to develop programs to train people in urban rescue. We at ITUS feel honoured that NIM in turn turned to IRA to acquire knowledge and expertise for implementing this objective.
The staff and students at NIM went through the training enthusiastically. It was also well appreciated by the principal of the institute, Col. Anshuman Bhadauria.
Making flying safer
Highly appreciative of the content, relevance and delivery of the training provided by IRA, the management of international airports have sent a steady stream of staff in batches for training and skill development in September 2023.
IRA‘s academy located at Kolad on the banks of the perineal Kundalika river and at the Dolwahal dam is considered ideal for still and swift water rescue training. It is also ideal for ‘Search and Rescue’ scuba diving training.
Indian Rescue Academy (IRA) has developed customised training regime to keep airports and passengers safe. The training covered, lifesaving, watermanship, search and rescue, scuba diving, Technical Rope Rescue, etc.
Building resilience and developing local communities
Aapda Mitra Scheme of National Disaster Management Authority
As part of the government of India’s initiatives to build resilience and developing local communities, Itus was asked to develop a high quality cost effective rescue throw bag for use by local community people in case of drowning.
5,000 throw bags were supplied through Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) to local communities who were also taught how to rescue people using the throw bags.
The throw bag is a weighted bag manufactured using a high visibility special material attached to a nylon rope that is thrown by the rescuer to the person in drowning distress. While highly effective in helping rescue a person in distress it protects the rescuer from being incapacitated by a drowning person.
Acquiring advanced Swift Water Rescue technology, skills and knowledge
We at ITUS are always seeking to upgrade our skills and knowledge. In pursuit of excellence, Ankit Wagh, Director and CEO of ITUS travelled to Vector Aero Whitewater Park, in Auckland, New Zealand.
With our intent on developing a similar facility in India, ITUS has initiated discussions with the management of Vector Aero Whitewater Park and the proactive New Zealand Trade Commission to set up an all weather year around adventure cum training facility.
Whilst there at Vector Wero facilities, Ankit spent time to undergo training and certification from Dr. Steve Glassey for advanced Swift-Water rescue training in all sorts of simulated rural and urban flood situations. Dr. Steve Glassey is considered an authority in Swift-Water rescue training.
With this training IRA can deliver and certify Swift-water training locally here in India.
